15 killed as truck overturns on Dhaka-Tangail highway

At least 15 people were killed and six others injured after a rod-laden truck overturned on the Dhaka–Tangail Highway in Tangail early Monday.

The accident occurred around 4:00 am in the Saratail Southpara area of Kalihati, according to fire service officials.

Authorities said the truck, which was carrying both steel rods and passengers heading toward northern districts for Eid travel, lost control and plunged into a roadside ditch before overturning.

Kalihati Fire Service and Civil Defence Station Officer Ataur Rahman confirmed that 15 passengers were crushed under the vehicle and died at the scene.

Rescue teams from the fire service and police recovered the victims and sent the six injured passengers to Tangail Sadar Hospital for treatment.

The identities of the deceased could not be confirmed immediately. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
