8 more children die from measles, death toll rises to 583

Eight more children have died from measles and its complications across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll since mid-March to 583, according to the latest data released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Data from the DGHS Health Emergency Operations Center and Control Room showed that 1,086 new measles cases and suspected infections were recorded during the reporting period. Of them, 53 cases were laboratory-confirmed, while 1,033 children were identified based on symptoms.
During the same period, 907 children were admitted to hospitals for treatment, while 539 recovered and were discharged. Health officials said all eight children who died had been receiving treatment for measles-related complications.

Since the outbreak began on March 15, Bangladesh has recorded 69,612 suspected measles cases, including 8,996 laboratory-confirmed infections. Of the 583 deaths reported so far, 90 were confirmed through laboratory testing, while 493 children died from severe measles symptoms and related complications before confirmation. Authorities have urged parents to ensure timely measles vaccination for children to help curb the spread of the disease.
