Tarique Rahman launches SDG village project

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman formally launched three villages under the government's SDG Village project on Monday, inaugurating a grassroots development drive aimed at translating the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals into tangible, community-level change.

The launch took place virtually from the China-Bangladesh Friendship Conference Centre at 12:30 pm, with the initiative encompassing Mitingachhari in Kaptai upazila, Rangamati; Pankhali in Dacope upazila, Khulna; and Nafanagar in Bochaganj upazila, Dinajpur. The project falls under a broader economic strategy realignment for sustainable national development, envisaging a sweep of interventions across the three villages that address all 17 SDG targets set by the United Nations.

Planned initiatives include poverty alleviation, waterlogging mitigation, quality education, improved healthcare access, reductions in child and maternal mortality, safe drinking water provision, and upgraded sanitation infrastructure. Residents of Mitingachhari in Rangamati have already voiced enthusiasm and gratitude at being brought under the scheme, welcoming the prospect of the promised amenities reaching their community.
