6 more die with measles symptoms in 24 hours

Six more people died with measles-like symptoms in the country in the last 24 hours till 8:00 am on Sunday, August 9, as the contagious disease shows no sign of easing.

With this, the number of suspected measles deaths rose to 775, while the tally of laboratory-confirmed measles deaths remained unchanged at 98 from April 10 this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

During the period, DGHS recorded an additional 988 suspected measles cases and 75 confirmed cases, bringing the totals to 136,320 and 17,115, respectively, so far this year.

The health directorate said it has been recording measles-related data since March 15.
