Social media platform X has introduced a new Original Content Rewards Program designed to offer content creators monetization opportunities for original posts, reporting, photos, videos, memes, and illustrations.

Alongside the launch, the platform announced that its existing revenue sharing program will be discontinued starting September 7. As a result, creators will no longer be able to earn income from low-quality or copied content, even if it garners significant popularity.

According to X, payouts under the new initiative will be based on eligible views of original content. Submissions considered original include self-written text or reports, self-captured photos and videos, and original memes or illustrations. Creators may still monetize shared third-party content provided it includes meaningful commentary, analysis, or personal perspectives. Creative edits to someone else’s image or video may also qualify, whereas merely describing or captioning another user's content without adding substantial value will not be eligible for earnings.

To participate in the program, creators must be at least 18 years old, reside in a country where the payout program is active, and hold an active subscription to X Premium, Premium Plus, or Premium Business. Additionally, creators must have a minimum of 500 verified followers and generate at least 500,000 home timeline views from verified users over the preceding 90 days. For revenue calculations, only views coming from Premium users will be taken into account.

X previously modified its revenue sharing model in March to prioritize engagement from users within a creator's home region, a change made following controversy surrounding high-profile accounts falsely presenting themselves as US-based. It remains unconfirmed whether the new rewards program will maintain a similar geographic weighting mechanism.
