Gold price rises again by Tk 1,108 per bhori

The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) raised gold prices for the second time in three days on Tuesday, lifting the rate for 22-carat gold by Taka 1,108 per bhori to Taka 2,35,146, inclusive of VAT, effective from 10 am.

In a notice issued Tuesday morning, Bajus attributed the adjustment to rising prices for pure gold in the local market. Under the revised rates, 21-carat gold now costs Taka 2,24,590 per bhori, 18-carat gold Taka 1,92,864, and traditional-method gold Taka 1,57,522 -- all inclusive of VAT -- with the new prices remaining in effect at every jewellery outlet nationwide until further notice, though making charges continue to vary by design. The association reiterated that VAT is already embedded in the sale price of gold and silver ornaments and therefore cannot be collected separately from customers, while its existing rules on ornament exchange and purchase, excluding specific VAT, making charges and stone costs, remain unchanged.

The latest revision follows an even sharper hike on 8 August, when Bajus raised the 22-carat rate by Taka 4,374 to Taka 2,34,038 per bhori. Tuesday's adjustment marks the 101st price revision in the domestic gold market this year alone -- comprising 50 increases, 50 decreases, and one VAT adjustment -- compared with 93 total revisions throughout all of 2025, when prices rose 64 times and fell 29.
