Tamim in race for ICC`s player of the month

Opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim has been nominated for the ICC's Player of the Month award for July, recognition for a consistent run with the bat against Zimbabwe, and finds himself competing against West Indies all-rounder Justin Greaves and England batter Harry Brook for the honour.

Tamim's case rests on a sustained streak of form across formats: he amassed 159 runs in three ODIs against Zimbabwe at an average of 53 and a strike rate of 89.83, before following up with 140 runs in five T20Is at a striking average of 70 and a strike rate of 127.27. Greaves, by contrast, made his mark with an all-round showing spanning both bat and ball, striking a commanding 180 in the drawn North Sound Test against Sri Lanka -- a match that nonetheless saw the Windies clinch the series 1-0 -- before starring with the ball in Tarouba against Pakistan, claiming five wickets for 27 runs in the first innings and two more in the second to steer his side to victory; across two Tests in July, he finished with 215 runs and eight wickets.

Brook, meanwhile, was destructive in the shorter format, racking up 229 runs in five T20Is against India at an extraordinary average of 114.50 and a strike rate of 214.01, though his ODI returns were comparatively muted at just 31 runs across three matches. The ICC will select one of the three as its Player of the Month for July from this contrasting trio of performances.
