Measles death toll rises to 575 as 10 more children die

Bangladesh’s ongoing measles outbreak has taken a more alarming turn, with 10 more children dying from measles and its symptoms across the country in the last 24 hours, according to the latest data released by the health authorities on Friday.
The latest report from the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room said two of the deaths were confirmed measles cases through laboratory testing, while the remaining eight children died with severe measles symptoms. Since March 15, the total number of deaths linked to the outbreak has risen to 575, including 90 confirmed measles deaths and 485 suspected cases.
During the same 24-hour period, authorities recorded 732 new infections, including 58 laboratory-confirmed measles cases and 674 suspected infections. Since the outbreak began, the total number of confirmed cases has reached 8,943, while suspected infections have climbed to 68,579 nationwide.

The health department said 54,798 children have so far been admitted to hospitals with measles symptoms, while 51,511 have recovered and returned home. Dhaka division remains the worst-hit region, reporting 250 deaths and more than 38,000 infections since mid-March. Public health experts have urged the government to strengthen emergency vaccination campaigns and increase public awareness to contain the outbreak.
