Remittance inflows hit $3.43 billion in May

Bangladesh received $3.43 billion in remittances in May, marking the second-highest monthly inflow in the country's history and providing a significant boost to foreign exchange reserves, according to the latest data from Bangladesh Bank.
Data released by Bangladesh Bank on Monday showed that expatriates sent home $3.425 billion in remittances during May, equivalent to an average of about $110.5 million per day.
The country's highest-ever monthly remittance inflow was recorded in March 2026, when remittances reached $3.755 billion.
Of the total remittances received in May, state-owned banks handled $566.5 million, while specialized banks received $467.2 million. Private commercial banks accounted for the largest share, channeling $2.387 billion, while foreign banks processed $4.6 million.

Economists and banking sector officials say the continued rise in remittance inflows is helping strengthen Bangladesh's foreign exchange reserves and providing vital support to the country's economy.
