More than 262,000 vehicles crossed the Jamuna Bridge over the past six days ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, generating over Tk 20 crore in toll revenue, authorities said on Thursday.

According to bridge authorities, a total of 262,908 vehicles used the bridge between May 22 and midnight on May 27. Of them, 159,243 vehicles crossed through the east toll plaza toward northern districts, while 103,665 vehicles travelled through the west toll plaza toward Dhaka.

During the period, toll collection reached Tk 20.34 crore, including Tk 11.30 crore from the east plaza and Tk 9.04 crore from the west plaza. The highest traffic volume was recorded on May 26, when 56,239 vehicles crossed the bridge.

Executive Engineer Syed Riaz Uddin said vehicle movement during the Eid rush was two to four times higher than normal. To handle the increased pressure, authorities operated four additional toll booths alongside the regular 14 booths.
