Thunderstorms likely in 8 areas by noon: Met office

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has warned that storms with wind speeds of up to 60 kilometres per hour may sweep across eight regions of the country by noon on Friday.
According to a weather bulletin signed by meteorologist Dr. Md. Omar Faruk, temporary gusty or squally winds accompanied by rain and thunderstorms may affect Rangpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, Cumilla, and Sylhet regions. Winds may blow from the west or northwest at speeds ranging from 45 to 60 kmph.
The weather office advised river ports in the affected areas to hoist signal number one.

In its broader forecast valid until 6:00pm Friday, the department said parts of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, and Mymensingh divisions, along with isolated areas in Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions, may experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers with gusty winds. Moderate to heavy rainfall is also possible in some places.
