The government may revise the announced schedule for the 2027 Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations following public criticism and concerns from students and parents, Education Minister A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon said on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat after a policy meeting, the minister said the government remains open to reconsidering the timetable if stakeholders believe the current schedule could negatively affect students' preparation.

The SSC examinations were initially scheduled to begin on January 7, 2027, nearly a month earlier than usual, to ensure completion before the start of Ramadan and to avoid disruptions to the academic calendar.

Milon said the original decision was taken after consultations with education experts and other stakeholders. However, the schedule has sparked widespread debate on social media and drawn mixed reactions from students, parents, and educators.

"We will review the matter again if stakeholders feel the schedule could create difficulties for students," he said, adding that further consultations may be held before a final decision is made.

The minister explained that holding the exams in late February, as originally planned, could have resulted in the examinations extending into Ramadan and being delayed until after Eid, potentially creating a prolonged session backlog.

He also stressed that any revision to the exam timetable would depend on the completion of the academic curriculum, saying no public examination would be held before the syllabus is fully covered.

According to the minister, the Education Ministry is working on a broader roadmap to restore a stable academic calendar and eliminate long-standing session delays, with a final decision on the SSC schedule expected after further review.
