According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, Bangladesh is likely to experience below-normal rainfall and higher-than-average temperatures in June, with two to three mild to moderate heatwaves expected during the month.
In its monthly outlook released on Monday, the BMD said several low-pressure systems could form over the region in June, with one potentially developing into a seasonal depression.
The forecast noted that rainfall this month may remain below normal despite June marking the beginning of the monsoon season in Bangladesh. Historically, the country receives an average of 459 millimetres of rainfall in June, rising to 523 millimetres in July, the wettest month of the year.
The weather office also warned that two to three mild to moderate heatwaves could sweep across parts of the country during the month.

The outlook comes after above-normal rainfall was recorded in both April and May. Rainfall in April was more than 75 percent higher than average, an unusually high level that caused crop damage in large areas of the country's haor regions, affecting the agricultural sector.
