Massive education reform: new curriculum and calendar overhaul

The government has announced a major overhaul of the country’s education system, including changes to the curriculum and academic calendar, aimed at improving quality and producing globally competitive, skilled manpower.
Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon said the government is undertaking significant reforms to modernize the education sector, including restructuring syllabi, curricula, and the academic calendar.
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the “China–Bangladesh Education Cooperation Forum 2026” held at the International Mother Language Institute in Dhaka, jointly organized by the Chinese Embassy and the China–Bangladesh Education and Cultural Exchange Association.
The adviser said traditional education systems are no longer sufficient to meet global challenges, stressing the need for a technology-driven and skills-based learning framework. He also said the government is considering allocating 5% of GDP to the education sector.

He added that improving teachers’ quality is a key priority, and joint training programs for general and technical teachers are being initiated in collaboration with China.
Officials said several memorandums of understanding were signed at the forum between educational institutions of Bangladesh and China to enhance cooperation in education exchange, research, training, and technology support.
The event also featured exhibitions on modern education technologies and digital learning systems.
