Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman on Saturday expressed hope for building a new Bangladesh free from the politics of enforced disappearance and killings, while urging party leaders and activists to help implement the party’s election manifesto.

Speaking at an exchange meeting with leaders and activists of BNP and its associate bodies at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh in Dhaka, he said he wanted to build a country where students would have a healthy learning environment and women and men could move safely.

Tarique said BNP leaders and activists had faced repression, enforced disappearances, and killings during what he described as the previous “fascist regime.”

He also said the party’s election manifesto had now become the people’s manifesto and that the public had already given its support in favor of it.

Leaders of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal, and Swechchhasebak Dal from central, metropolitan, and district levels attended the meeting, along with members of the BNP standing committee.

The meeting was held to strengthen party activities and make the organization more active at the grassroots level.
