Tollywood actress Koel Mallick has resigned from her position as a Rajya Sabha member, just two months after assuming office, according to reports from Indian media. However, the reason behind her decision remains unclear.
Reports said Koel submitted her resignation via email three days ago. However, the Vice President's Secretariat has reportedly asked her to appear in person to formally submit the resignation letter. She has yet to seek an appointment for the process.
The actress was nominated by the Trinamool Congress in February and took oath as a Rajya Sabha member in April after travelling to New Delhi.
Upon entering politics, Koel had described the opportunity to serve the country and its people as a privilege and a significant responsibility. Her father, veteran actor Ranjit Mallick, had also expressed confidence in her ability to work honestly for the public.
Speculation surrounding Koel's political role had persisted since she joined active politics. Although various theories have emerged regarding her resignation, she has not made any public statement on the matter.
