Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed optimism that Chinese cooperation and investment will play a significant role in accelerating Thakurgaon's development, praising China as a longstanding and trusted partner of Bangladesh.

Speaking at a Bangladesh-China Friendship education support programme at Shaheed Mohammad Ali Stadium in Thakurgaon on Friday, Mirza Fakhrul said China's rise as a global power was driven by hard work, innovation, and investment in human resources.

Around 6,500 students received school bags and educational materials during the event, reflecting the growing ties between the two countries.

The minister commended China's contribution to Bangladesh's infrastructure development, including roads, bridges, and educational institutions. He also highlighted several development initiatives in Thakurgaon, including the establishment of a university and a medical college, both approved with the support of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Construction work on the projects has already begun, he said.

Mirza Fakhrul further noted that efforts are underway to reopen the abandoned airport in Thakurgaon, while the formation of Ruhia and Bhulli upazilas has strengthened local administrative services.

Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen, who attended the programme as a guest of honour, said promoting education and developing skilled human resources were key objectives of China's cooperation initiatives. He added that a high-level Chinese delegation is expected to visit Thakurgaon in July or August to explore investment opportunities in agriculture, industry, and trade.

Expressing confidence in future Chinese investment, Mirza Fakhrul said such collaboration could help transform Thakurgaon's economic landscape. He also urged students to become self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to the country's development through education and strong moral values.
