Bangladesh's government is not satisfied with Ad-din Hospital's explanation over the deaths of six newborns in its post-operative ward last month, Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain said on Wednesday, adding that authorities would soon decide on further action.

Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat, the minister said the show-cause response submitted by the hospital lacked clarity and failed to adequately address concerns raised by health authorities.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) had issued a show-cause notice to the hospital on June 4, following the deaths of six newborns on May 27. A three-member probe committee formed by the DGHS identified multiple lapses in hospital management, environmental conditions, and negligence by doctors and nurses on duty.

According to the investigation report, the ward was unsuitable for newborns and post-operative patients, citing inadequate ventilation, poor air-conditioning management, and the absence of on-duty physicians during the incident. The report also found shortcomings in emergency response and patient monitoring despite the infants initially being born in stable condition.

The health minister said discussions were underway to determine appropriate measures against the hospital based on the findings of the investigation.
