Jamaat Picks Sadiq Kayem for Dhaka South Mayoral Election

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has selected Sadiq Kayem as its candidate for the upcoming Dhaka South City Corporation mayoral election.
The announcement was made on Friday morning at a workers’ conference of Dhaka Metropolitan South Jamaat held at the Institution of Diploma Engineers in Kakrail. Sadiq Kayem was also present at the event.
Party sources said the candidacy has been finalized, although a formal announcement will be made within the next few days. Kayem did not make any immediate comment on the matter.

As part of his election preparations, he has already transferred his national identity card registration from Khagrachhari to Dhaka and included his name in the city’s voter list.
Jamaat Assistant Secretary General and publicity chief Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair said candidates for both Dhaka North and South city corporations have been finalized and official declarations will be made soon.
Currently serving as the DUCSU vice-president, Kayem is seen as a rising young leader from student politics, and party leaders expect him to begin full-scale campaigning after the formal announcement.
