The government has declared May 25 a general holiday by executive order ahead of Eid al-Adha, creating an extended nationwide break from May 25 to May 31 for public and private sector employees.
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration, government, semi-government, autonomous, semi-autonomous, and private offices across the country will remain closed during the period.
To adjust the holiday schedule, offices will remain open on Saturday, May 23, and Sunday, May 24.
However, emergency and essential services will remain outside the holiday coverage. Electricity, water, gas, fire service, hospitals, postal services, telephone, and internet services will continue operating as usual.

Doctors, healthcare workers, and vehicles transporting medicines and medical equipment will also remain exempt from the holiday order.
Bangladesh Bank will issue separate instructions to ensure banking services remain operational, while the Supreme Court will provide guidance regarding court activities.
For private industries and factories, the Ministry of Labour and Employment will issue necessary instructions in line with the Bangladesh Labour Act.
The notification, signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Jannatul Ferdous of the Public Administration Ministry by order of the President, has already been sent to the relevant ministries, divisions and offices.
The extended holiday has created excitement among employees, with many already preparing to leave the capital to spend more time with their families during Eid.
Meanwhile, preparations for Eid travel by road, rail and waterways have also started intensifying across the country.
