A legal notice has been served on Ad-din Hospital in Dhaka over the deaths of six newborns and the illness of several mothers, demanding action within 72 hours against alleged medical negligence and poor hospital management.

The notice was sent on Friday by Supreme Court lawyer and child rights activist Advocate Ishrat Hasan to four authorities, including the Health Services Division secretary and the hospital director.

The notice calls for a proper investigation, punishment of those responsible, compensation for affected families and nationwide reforms in maternity and neonatal ward safety protocols.

It warns that if effective measures are not taken within 72 hours, a writ petition will be filed with the High Court.

The incident occurred early Wednesday at Ad-din Hospital’s neonatal and post-operative ward in Moghbazar, where several newborns reportedly fell critically ill simultaneously. Families alleged delays in treatment and inadequate emergency response.

The Health Ministry has already formed a three-member investigation committee, while police have also begun a probe into the incident.
