DNA report handed over in rape, murder of Ramisa

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Police has handed over the DNA report to the investigation officer in the murder and rape case of seven-year-old Ramisa Akter.

The investigation officer and sub-inspector at Pallabi police station, Ohiduzzaman Bhuiyan, collected the report from CID's forensic unit, Jashim Uddin Khan, special superintendent (media) of CID, confirmed on Saturday, May 23.

According to sources, after receiving forensic reports, the investigation into the case is in the final stage, and work is now underway to prepare the charge sheet.

If everything is ok, the charge sheet will be submitted to the court on Sunday, May 24, the sources said.

On May 19, Ramisa, a second grader, was found dead with her throat slit and head severed in a flat adjacent to theirs.

Police arrested a couple – Sohel Rana, 30, and his wife Swapna Akter, 26, tenants of the next flat of the victim's, from Narayanganj's Fatulla, in connection with the murder.

On the night of the incident, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) at a press conference said they initially assumed that Ramisa was killed after rape. Later, the suspect severed her head from her neck to cover the body.
