Bollywood actress Preity Zinta has approached the Bombay High Court, seeking legal protection against the circulation of AI-generated deepfake images and videos that she says have damaged her reputation and violated her privacy.
Zinta filed a petition after multiple manipulated images and videos created using artificial intelligence appeared across online platforms, including Meta and Google. She argued that the deepfake content misrepresents her, harms her public image, and infringes on her privacy and copyright.
Invoking her moral rights under India's Copyright Act of 1957, the actress requested legal safeguards against the unauthorized use of her likeness. Justice Abhay Ahuja's single-judge bench accepted the plea and granted her permission to pursue a detailed legal case to protect her personal rights.

The case adds to a growing list of legal actions by Indian celebrities against the misuse of AI technology. Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan have previously sought court intervention over the unauthorized use of their names, images, and voices. Zinta is currently promoting her upcoming film Batwara 1947 while pursuing the legal action.
