Bangladesh recorded two more dengue-related deaths and 157 new hospital admissions over the past 24 hours, highlighting the persistent spread of the mosquito-borne disease despite ongoing prevention efforts. Health experts have cautioned that the situation could deteriorate further as the monsoon season intensifies.

According to a press release issued on Wednesday by the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the latest fatalities have pushed the country's dengue death toll higher, while hospitals continue to admit new patients from across the country. Official data also show that dengue infections have now been reported in 58 of Bangladesh's 64 districts between 1 January and 19 June, underscoring the disease's widespread geographical reach.

Health authorities noted that, during the 2025 calendar year, Bangladesh recorded 102,861 confirmed dengue cases and 413 deaths, illustrating the devastating impact of the disease in recent years. Public health specialists have warned that the current upward trend warrants heightened vigilance, as favourable weather conditions could accelerate mosquito breeding and intensify community transmission in the coming weeks.

In response to the growing public health concern, the government has stepped up its preparedness measures. A 19-member national task force, headed by State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam, has been formed to coordinate dengue prevention and control initiatives. Meanwhile, both Dhaka North and Dhaka South City Corporations have intensified anti-mosquito operations, including larvicide spraying, source reduction campaigns, and public awareness programmes, in an effort to curb the spread of the virus before the peak transmission season.
