The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has termed the simultaneous resignation of 18 law officers supportive of Jamaat-e-Islami from the Attorney General's Office as a "political stunt.

"Earlier on Tuesday, seven Deputy Attorneys General (DAG) and 11 Assistant Attorneys General (AAG), who are members of the Jamaat-e-Islami-backed Islamic Lawyers' Council, submitted their resignation letters simultaneously.

In their resignation letters, they cited the non-implementation of the 'July Charter' and the cancellation of the Supreme Court Secretariat Ordinance and the Supreme Court Judges Appointment Ordinance as the reasons behind their decision.

Following this, BNP's Legal Affairs Secretary and Supreme Court lawyer, Adv. M. Badruddoza Badal, urged the Attorney General to investigate whether these officers had engaged in any "sabotage" or subversive activities against the state during their four-month tenure.Speaking to journalists in front of the Supreme Court's Annex Building on Wednesday, Badruddoza Badal said,"Whenever there is a change in government, individuals holding the positions of Assistant Attorney General, Deputy Attorney General, Additional Attorney General, and Attorney General voluntarily resign. This has always been the practice in Bangladesh."He further remarked:"

The interesting thing is that the friends who resigned yesterday worked as law officers under this government for four months. They took salaries, enjoyed benefits, and used their titles. After four months, they suddenly felt the need to resign or realized they might be removed. That is why they have brought forward some political issues, which is highly unexpected.
