Vegetable prices rise amid waterlogging
Continuous rainfall has caused waterlogging in parts of the capital, disrupting daily life and pushing up prices of essential vegetables in local markets.
On Friday morning, shoppers across different markets in Dhaka faced both travel difficulties due to flooded roads and higher-than-usual vegetable prices.
Chilies were selling at Tk 120 per kg, while brinjal ranged between Tk 80 and Tk 150 depending on quality. Other vegetables such as pointed gourd, bottle gourd, okra, and bitter gourd were priced between Tk 60 and Tk 80 per kg, while tomatoes were selling at Tk 60 to Tk 70.

Chicken prices also remained unstable, with broiler chicken selling at Tk 185–190 per kg and Sonali chicken at Tk 330–350.
Residents of areas such as Rampura, Malibagh, and Khilgaon said waterlogging has made commuting to markets difficult, worsening daily hardship. Traders, however, blamed disrupted supply chains and higher transport costs for the price hike.
They also warned that prices may rise further if adverse weather continues, as crops in surrounding regions face potential damage.
