DMP detains 26 leaders and activists of banned Awami League

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested 26 leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organisations during coordinated raids across several areas of the capital, officials said on Monday.
The arrests were confirmed by DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Niaz Mehdi, who said the suspects were detained in separate operations conducted by different police units. He added that the coordinated crackdown formed part of ongoing efforts to maintain public safety and uphold law and order in the capital.
According to the police, the arrests were made across eight police station jurisdictions. Dhanmondi recorded the highest number of detentions with 10, followed by Mohammadpur with eight. Two suspects were arrested each from Ramna and Khilkhet, while one person was detained from each of Banshal, Kadamtali, Mirpur and Turag police stations.

Police said legal proceedings against the detainees are currently underway in accordance with the law. The DMP further stated that similar operations will continue as part of its broader strategy to preserve public order, prevent unlawful activities and ensure security across the capital.
