Bangladesh's border guards said they thwarted an alleged attempt by India's Border Security Force (BSF) to push four people into Bangladesh through the Buripota border in Meherpur early Friday.

According to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and local sources, residents spotted suspicious movement near the border before dawn and alerted the authorities. BGB personnel quickly deployed to the area, strengthened security along the frontier, and found four individuals near the zero line.

The BGB said its firm presence prevented the alleged push-in, forcing the BSF to take the four people back across the border. The group reportedly comprised one man and three women, although their identities, nationality, and the purpose of their presence at the border could not be immediately verified.

Lieutenant Colonel Md. Nazmul Hasan, commanding officer of BGB-6 Battalion, said the BSF had attempted to push the four individuals into Bangladesh but failed due to the BGB's strong response. He added that border patrols and surveillance have been intensified in cooperation with residents amid a recent rise in allegations of push-in attempts along the frontier.
