Bangladesh were bowled out for 426 in their first innings against Australia in Darwin on Saturday, securing a commanding 228-run lead after the hosts were dismissed for 198 in the opening innings of the first Test.

Bangladesh resumed the third day on 351-6, holding a 153-run advantage, and added another 75 runs before losing their remaining four wickets. Mehedi Hasan Miraz completed a fighting half-century, scoring 65 off 5 fours and a six, while Taijul Islam contributed 17 and Ebadot Hossain seven. Taskin Ahmed remained unbeaten on 14, while Hasan Mahmud, who resumed on 13, was dismissed for 14. Josh Hazlewood was Australia's most successful bowler, claiming 6-89.

Earlier, Australia were bundled out for 198 on the opening day, with Bangladesh's pace attack exploiting the conditions effectively. Bangladesh ended the first day on 96-1 before consolidating their position on the second day, reaching 351-6 by stumps. The visitors' substantial first-innings advantage has now placed Australia under considerable pressure in the match.

Tanzid Hasan Tamim led Bangladesh's batting effort with a historic 101, his maiden Test century, while captain Najmul Hossain Shanto produced an assured 84. Mominul Haque scored 49 and Mushfiqur Rahim added 36, providing valuable contributions as Bangladesh built a formidable total. Australia now face the task of overcoming a 228-run deficit when they begin their second innings.
