2027 SSC exams to begin on January 7

The 2027 Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations will begin on January 7 next year, according to the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee. The decision has been taken to save students’ valuable time and gradually bring Bangladesh’s academic calendar back in line with international schedules, with officials maintaining that the examinations will be held as scheduled.

Prof Syed Akhtaruzzaman, chairman of the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee and Dhaka Education Board, said schools had already been instructed to complete the prescribed syllabus before conducting the test examinations. Under the government’s 2026 academic calendar, the selection or test examinations are scheduled to run from October 28 to November 10, with results to be published by November 18. This would leave students roughly two months to prepare for the SSC examinations, compared with the two and a half to three months they have typically received in previous years.

The shortened preparation period has sparked concern among students, parents and teachers, particularly at institutions that may struggle to complete the syllabus by mid-October. However, Akhtaruzzaman said students would not face significant difficulties if schools completed the syllabus and conducted test examinations on time. He said the January examination schedule was part of a broader effort to restore the academic calendar after repeated disruptions in recent years, which have caused students to lose several months from their educational lives and created difficulties for those seeking higher education abroad. The 2026 SSC examinations began on April 21, while HSC examinations started on July 2.
