Dhaka tightens security ahead of August 15

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has stepped up security across the capital ahead of August 15 to maintain law and order and ensure public safety. The heightened security measures include increased patrols, checkpoints, intensified searches at entry points and enhanced surveillance at key locations to prevent any untoward incident.

According to a DMP statement issued on Friday, special pickets and checkpoint duties are being conducted across the city, while searches have been intensified at major entry points. SWAT, the bomb disposal unit and the K-9 unit have been placed on standby at key installations and public gathering sites, with sweeping operations also under way. Critical infrastructure and sensitive locations will be monitored through CCTV cameras and drones, while members of the Detective Branch, Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC), City Special Branch and Intelligence Analysis Division will conduct covert surveillance.

Additional police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personnel will also be deployed at strategic points, event venues, metro rail stations, bus terminals, launch terminals, railway stations, shopping malls and other sensitive areas. Niaz Mehedi, Additional Deputy Commissioner of DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division, said senior police officials would remain in the field to directly oversee security arrangements in their respective jurisdictions.
