The Bangladesh Jewellers' Association (Bajus) has once again revised gold prices upward, marking the third adjustment in just two days, as fluctuations in the international price of pure gold continue to ripple through the domestic market.
The newly announced rates took effect nationwide from 10:00 am on Thursday, 13 August. Under the revised price list, 22-carat gold now costs Tk 1,633 more per bhori (11.664 grams), bringing the price to Tk 236,779. Similarly, 21-carat gold rose by Tk 1,575 to Tk 226,165 per bhori, 18-carat gold increased by Tk 1,342 to Tk 194,206, and traditional-method gold climbed by Tk 1,108 to Tk 158,630 per bhori.
This latest revision comes barely two days after Bajus last adjusted prices on 11 August, underscoring the volatility gripping the bullion market. Silver prices, however, have remained untouched, holding steady at Tk 5,074 for 22-carat, Tk 4,841 for 21-carat, Tk 4,199 for 18-carat, and Tk 3,149 for traditional-method silver per bhori.

According to a notice signed by Dr. Dewan Aminul Islam Shaheen, chairman of the Bajus Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring, the newly fixed rates will remain effective at all jewellery establishments until further notice. The association clarified that making charges will continue to vary according to design, and since VAT is already incorporated into the selling price of gold and silver ornaments, no additional VAT will be levied on customers. Existing regulations governing the purchase or exchange of ornaments remain unchanged, with Bajus noting that such periodic adjustments are made in line with global market trends and to stabilise volatility in the local price of pure gold.
