Govt forces 56 police officers into compulsory retirement

The government has compulsorily retired 56 police officers, including seven assistant commissioners of police and 49 inspectors, through separate gazette notifications issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday (13 August).

The notifications, issued by the Police-1 branch of the ministry's Public Security Division, invoked Section 45 of the Government Servants Act, 2018, stating that the order, issued in the public interest, would take effect immediately, with the retired officers entitled to all customary retirement benefits under existing rules. According to the notifications, the 49 retired inspectors had been serving in various key units and postings across the force, including district police, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), the Special Branch (SB) and Railway Police.

The seven assistant commissioners of police retired under the same provision were named as Nure Alam Siddiqui, Md Nurul Motakin, Kazi Waez Ali, Md Saiduzzaman, Md Golam Kibria, Md Rabiul Islam and Mohammad Mizanur Rahman.
