Sylhet DC Sarwar Alam withdrawn

The Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Magistrate of Sylhet, Md. Sarwar Alam, has been withdrawn from his post.
Sarwar Alam was appointed as the DC of Sylhet on August 18, 2025.
The Ministry of Public Administration issued an official order regarding this matter on Sunday (June 21). According to the directive, he has been attached to the Ministry of Public Administration as a Deputy Secretary.
An officer of the 27th BCS (Administration) cadre, Sarwar Alam previously gained widespread public recognition and acclaim during his tenure as an Executive Magistrate of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), where he led numerous high-profile anti-adulteration and anti-corruption drives.

Prior to this, Md. Sarwar Alam had expressed his grievances regarding being deprived of career promotions through a Facebook post. The then-Awami League government considered the act of posting his grievances online as misconduct and handed him a minor penalty of 'censure'. The Ministry of Public Administration had issued a notification regarding this punishment in May 2022.
Earlier, on November 9, 2020, he was suddenly transferred as a Senior Assistant Secretary to the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment. Later, on August 14, 2024, he was promoted to the rank of Deputy Secretary.a
