PM looks forward to closer cooperation with Malaysia

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has expressed his eagerness to work closely with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to further strengthen the multifaceted partnership between the two countries following his inaugural official visit to Malaysia as Bangladesh's premier.

In a message released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday after concluding an 18-hour visit to Malaysia and departing for China, Tarique Rahman conveyed his profound appreciation to the Malaysian government for its warm hospitality. He and his wife, Dr Zubaida Rahman, extended their gratitude to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and his spouse, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, for what he described as an exceptionally cordial reception. He said the visit and bilateral discussions had further consolidated the longstanding relationship between the two friendly nations.

The prime minister noted that Bangladesh and Malaysia share decades of enduring friendship dating back to the tenures of former President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. He also expressed his sincere appreciation to Malaysia's King, Sultan Ibrahim ibni Sultan Iskandar, for granting him an audience during the visit, describing the meeting as a reflection of the close ties between the two countries.

Reaffirming Bangladesh's commitment to strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation, Tarek Rahman underscored the importance of robust people-to-people connectivity, which he said has fostered enduring links across diverse sectors and communities. He added that he looks forward to working closely with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to elevate the two countries' comprehensive partnership and broaden collaboration across areas of mutual interest.
