Five Bangladeshi expats killed in road accident in Qatar

A devastating road accident in the Shahaniya area of Qatar has claimed the lives of six people, including five Bangladeshi expatriates. The tragedy occurred on Saturday morning (June 20) when the pickup van carrying them to work veered out of control and overturned.

All five Bangladeshi victims were residents of the Gachbari area under the Kanaighat upazila of Sylhet district. The sixth victim has been identified as an Indian national.

The identities of the deceased Bangladeshis were confirmed by Ahmed Malek, the General Secretary of the Jalalabad Association Qatar.

The victims are- Jasim Uddin (from Agtaluk village), Jibal Uddin (from Amorpur village), Mostaq Ahmad (from Maztaluk village), Zubayer Ahmad (from Maztaluk village), Kader Ahmad (from Gachbari village).

According to eyewitnesses and local sources, the expatriates were commuting to their workplace in a pickup van, as they routinely did. While passing through the Shahaniya area, the vehicle suddenly lost control, flipped over, and was completely crushed.

All six passengers died on the spot. Local emergency services arrived shortly after to recover the bodies, which are currently being held at the morgue of a local hospital. Local police and relevant authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.

The heartbreaking news has cast a deep shadow of grief over the Gachbari area in Kanaighat, where families are mourning the sudden loss of their loved ones.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Embassy in Qatar has initiated the process to repatriate the bodies as quickly as possible.

"We are in close contact and coordination with the embassy to ensure that legal formalities are completed swiftly so the bodies can be handed over to the grieving families without delay. Embassy officials have already contacted the hospital to complete the necessary paperwork." Ahmed Malek, General Secretary of Jalalabad Association Qatar said.
