Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) says it sees no specific security threat surrounding the June 23 founding anniversary of the banned Awami League, but has placed the capital under heightened security as a precaution.
Speaking at a press briefing at the DMP Media Centre on Friday, Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) S.N. Nazrul Islam said security measures had been strengthened across the city, with checkpoints and patrols continuing at key locations to ensure public safety. He added that police remained on maximum alert despite the absence of any intelligence indicating a security risk.

Responding to questions about the alleged return to extortion by a suspect known as "Kaila Faruk" after securing bail, Nazrul Islam said bail decisions fall under the jurisdiction of the courts. He added that operations against criminals, drug traffickers and extortionists would continue, and those arrested would be produced before the courts after the necessary investigations.
