US President Donald Trump described Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a "total killer" while praising his leadership and negotiating skills, saying the remark was intended as a compliment during a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian, France.
Ahead of their talks, Trump told reporters that Modi appeared calm and gentle but was an exceptionally tough leader in practice. "He looks like one of the nicest people you'll ever meet--almost like an angel -- but he's a total killer," Trump said, using the phrase metaphorically to highlight the Indian leader's firmness and effectiveness in negotiations.
The US president also reaffirmed his close relationship with Modi, saying India would always have "a true friend" in the White House during his presidency. Trump described Modi as a "kind but tough" leader who deeply cares about both India and the United States. He added that the two countries were making progress on a bilateral trade agreement and noted growing Indian investment in the US.
