Iran-US conflict escalates: peace talks fail, strikes intensify

Tensions between Iran and the United States have escalated sharply after renewed military exchanges in the Persian Gulf derailed ongoing diplomatic efforts for a peace deal, officials said.
The confrontation centered on the Strait of Hormuz, where both sides reported drone and missile attacks. The US Central Command said Iran-backed forces targeted a US Navy destroyer, prompting US airstrikes on Iranian military sites. No major damage was confirmed.
Iran accused the US of violating the ceasefire first and striking naval and strategic locations, including areas near civilians. Tehran also claimed commercial shipping in the strait was targeted.

Analysts describe the situation as a “low-intensity conflict,” with rising risks of wider escalation if diplomacy is not restored soon.
