Vote counting in the West Bengal Assembly elections has entered a tense phase, with early trends showing a close contest between the ruling Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party. Attention is particularly focused on several celebrity candidates fielded by both parties.

In Shibpur, BJP candidate Ruderneel Ghosh is leading by over 5,000 votes against Trinamool’s Rana Chatterjee. In Shyampur, BJP’s Hiran Chatterjee is also ahead, although margins continue to fluctuate across counting rounds.

In Sonarpur South, BJP’s Rupa Ganguly has taken a significant lead of around 10,000 votes over Trinamool candidate Lovely Maitra. In Barrackpore, BJP candidate Koustav Bagchi is reportedly ahead, while Trinamool’s Raj Chakraborty is trailing.

Among Trinamool candidates, actor Soham Chakraborty is maintaining a strong lead in Karimpur by over 14,000 votes. However, actress Sayantika Banerjee is facing a tough contest in Baranagar, where she is trailing BJP’s Sajal Ghosh.

In Jadavpur, BJP candidate Sharbari Mukherjee has emerged as a surprise frontrunner after initial rounds of counting.

With results still unfolding and margins shifting, analysts say the final outcome remains uncertain until all rounds, including postal ballots, are fully counted.
