A fire broke out at Ibn Sina Pharmaceuticals’ factory in Shafipur, Kaliakair upazila, Gazipur, on Saturday afternoon, and six Fire Service units brought it under control in a little over an hour.
The blaze erupted around 4:30 pm on October 17 and was brought under control at 5:35 pm. According to initial reports, it originated in the factory’s herbal section before spreading rapidly. Three Fire Service units rushed to the scene at first, and three more subsequently joined the firefighting operation.
However, the cause of the fire and any possible casualties were not immediately known, and investigators have yet to assess the extent of the damage.

The incident came just days after a fire at the factory of another pharmaceutical company, Drug International, in Tongi, Gazipur, on Wednesday. Firefighters needed around four hours to extinguish that blaze, so the latest outbreak is likely to renew scrutiny of safety standards at industrial facilities in the district.
