The formation of governing bodies and managing committees at private educational institutions across Bangladesh, from lower-secondary to higher-secondary level, has been suspended indefinitely, according to an official notice issued on Thursday. The directive cites the incomplete state of the regulations that govern the process.

The notice, dated October 15, was issued by the Bangladesh Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee, whose president also heads the Dhaka Education Board. It applies to private institutions under the lower-secondary, secondary, and higher-secondary education boards. However, it did not specify when the process might resume, leaving thousands of institutions in a state of administrative uncertainty.

According to the notice, the decision was taken because the Regulations on the Formation of Governing Bodies and Managing Committees of Private Educational Institutions, 2026, have yet to be finalised. Consequently, institutions covered by the regulations cannot proceed with forming their governing bodies or managing committees until the regulatory framework is completed. Furthermore, the notice stated that the suspension will remain in force until further instructions are issued.

Meanwhile, the announcement offered no definitive timeline for finalising the regulations or for resuming committee formation. This ambiguity is likely to prolong the existing interim arrangements at many institutions. Nevertheless, the notice makes clear that the freeze will stay in place until the boards issue fresh directives.
