Design platform Figma has unveiled a suite of tools to make AI-assisted design and website development easier to control, including a Markdown-based editor for design guidelines, a public beta of its code integration for interactive prototyping, and deeper content management for AI-built websites.

The company announced the features at the India edition of its Config conference, which began on Tuesday, according to a TechCrunch report published on Wednesday. The centrepiece, Figma Specs, lets organisations document their brand identity, design principles and guidelines in plain language, so that both designers and AI agents can consult them and ensure that AI-generated work adheres to established brand standards. Specs can be saved as standalone files or embedded in the design canvas, and they can incorporate canvas elements, code snippets and FigJam diagrams while keeping design libraries, code libraries and instructions in one place. Moreover, Figma is releasing its code-on-canvas feature, known as code layers, in public beta after a private trial. It lets users add code directly to designs to build more interactive prototypes, and they can ask AI agents to generate code from a design or modify sections of existing code.

Figma’s Chief Design Officer, Loredana Crisan, said the company wants to be the place where software teams decide what to build and ship. She noted that AI has dramatically increased the volume of code being produced, whereas the number of new products and features reaching the market has not risen at the same pace. In addition, more than 20 new tools are being added to Figma’s Model Context Protocol (MCP) support, including those from OpenCode, Dia, Grok Bot and the Indian AI startup Sarvam. Meanwhile, Figma is integrating Payload, the open-source content management system it acquired last year, with Figma Make, enabling users to manage content directly on dynamic AI-generated websites.

India is Figma’s largest market outside the United States by user numbers, and the company says 40% of the top 100 firms listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange use its platform.
