Prime Minister Tarique Rahman ordered the immediate suspension of a physician at Bangladesh Shishu Hospital and Institute in Dhaka on Saturday after finding him smoking in his room during an unannounced inspection.

The prime minister visited the Agargaon facility on October 17 to inspect its various departments, assess working conditions and review overall cleanliness. During the tour, he came upon associate professor Rafiqul Islam smoking in his room, which was also reportedly unkempt. Visibly dissatisfied with both the conduct and the substandard conditions, Rahman instructed the hospital’s board chairman, Professor Dr AKM Azizul Haque, to take action against the physician.
