Measles outbreak kills more than 600 children so far

Seven more children have died from measles-related symptoms across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, raising the overall death toll to 601 since the outbreak began in mid-March, according to the latest data from the health authorities.
The Health Emergency Operations Center and Control Room said no new deaths from laboratory-confirmed measles were recorded during the reporting period, though seven children died with measles-like symptoms.
The latest report recorded 1,265 new suspected cases and 55 newly confirmed infections over the past 24 hours. Since March 15, Bangladesh has reported 9,191 laboratory-confirmed measles cases and 74,572 suspected infections.
Of the 601 deaths recorded so far, 90 were among confirmed measles patients, while 511 involved children showing measles-related symptoms.
Dhaka Division remains the worst-hit region, accounting for 264 deaths and 41,449 suspected infections. Six of the seven deaths reported in the past day occurred in Dhaka Division, while the remaining death was recorded in Mymensingh.

Health experts have urged parents to ensure timely vaccination and seek immediate medical care if children develop symptoms consistent with measles.
