Bangladesh's women's cricket team advanced to the semi-finals of the 2026 Asian Games without a single ball being bowled, after their quarter-final against China was abandoned owing to persistent rain and a waterlogged outfield in Nisshin, Japan, on Thursday. The umpires conducted several inspections but deemed the ground unfit for play, and the teams did not even proceed to a toss. Under the tournament regulations, Bangladesh progressed by virtue of their superior ICC T20I ranking.

Bangladesh are ranked 10th in the ICC Women's T20I rankings, whereas China languish at 37th. Although officials considered reducing the match and resorting to a Super Over, continued rain rendered even that impossible; consequently, the higher-ranked Bangladesh side was awarded passage to the last four. The washout also meant that Bangladesh's first official women's T20I encounter with China failed to materialise, notwithstanding the teams having previously met at the 2010 Asian Games in a fixture that lacked full international recognition.

Bangladesh will contest their semi-final on September 20 against the winner of the India-Japan quarter-final. The team has previously secured two silver medals and one bronze in women's cricket at the Asian Games, and will now have a further opportunity to compete for a medal. Meanwhile, the inclement weather had already disrupted Bangladesh's preparations, curtailing their access to the main ground ahead of the abandoned quarter-final.
