Bangladesh lose 3-0 to Malaysia in ASEAN Cup opener

Bangladesh began their FIFA ASEAN Cup campaign with a 3-0 defeat to Malaysia in their Group A opener at Jakarta’s Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on Friday. Malaysia dominated much of the match, with Arif Aiman Hanapi scoring twice and Bergson da Silva adding another goal after the break.
Malaysia opened the scoring in the 18th minute before Arif Aiman doubled the lead nine minutes later following a defensive error. Bergson, making his international debut, completed the scoring in the 52nd minute as Bangladesh struggled to contain Malaysia’s pace and attacking pressure.

Bangladesh coach Thomas Dooley made several changes after half-time, while Farhan Ali Wahid, Shuki Itofusa and Zidan Yousuf made their international debuts. Bangladesh will next face Singapore on September 28 before meeting hosts Indonesia on October 1 in their remaining Group A matches.
