Bangladesh secured their first-ever home One-Day International victory over Australia, defeating the visitors by 86 runs via the DLS method in the opening match of the three-match series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
Powered by an unbeaten 86 from returning all-rounder Mosaddek Hossain, Bangladesh posted a competitive 284 for 8 after being asked to bat first. Nazmul Hossain Shanto scored 67 off 86 balls, while Tanzid Hasan Tamim added a quickfire 54 off 44 deliveries.
Australia's chase was disrupted by disciplined Bangladeshi bowling and rain interruptions. Chasing a revised DLS target of 285 in 42.2 overs, the tourists were 191 for 9 when play was called off, handing Bangladesh an 86-run victory.
Young pacer Nahid Rana starred with four wickets, while Mustafizur Rahman and Mosaddek claimed two wickets each. For Australia, Alex Carey top-scored with 47, Cameron Green remained unbeaten on 42, and opener Cooper Connolly contributed 35.
