A group of 50–60 youths allegedly attacked and vandalised the Uttara residence of Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader in Dhaka on Monday morning, hurling bricks at the property after gathering outside the house and chanting slogans.

The incident took place around 10 am on Monday, October 12, at Mr Quader’s residence on Road 33 in Sector 7 of Uttara, and the party chairman himself confirmed the assault. According to him, the youths assembled in front of the house and chanted provocative slogans before pelting the building with bricks and stones and vandalising the property. Moreover, they allegedly branded him an agent of India, an accusation that has become a familiar refrain in Bangladesh’s polarised political discourse.

Mr Quader said that police were alerted immediately after the attack and arrived at the scene to bring the situation under control. Nevertheless, the identity of the assailants, the extent of the damage and any injuries had not been disclosed, and no arrests had been reported at the time of writing. Consequently, it remains unclear who orchestrated the attack and whether legal action will follow.
