Bangladesh has sent 12–13 formal letters to India urging an end to alleged push-ins across the border, stressing that any repatriation of citizens must follow established legal procedures and bilateral agreements, Foreign Affairs Adviser Shama Obaed Islam said on Monday.
Speaking to reporters at the Foreign Ministry in Dhaka, Shama Obaed said Bangladesh has repeatedly raised the issue with New Delhi through diplomatic channels and made it clear that it would not accept any attempt to forcibly push people across the border.
She emphasized that both countries have a recognized mechanism for verifying citizenship and repatriating individuals, and urged India to adhere to that process rather than resort to unilateral actions.
The adviser warned that such incidents could undermine ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries.
Meanwhile, she said the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has intensified surveillance and is actively preventing any unauthorized cross-border movement. Additional personnel have been deployed in border districts, while local residents are also assisting authorities in monitoring the frontier.

The issue is expected to feature prominently at the 57th director general-level border conference between Border Guard Bangladesh and Border Security Force, which began in New Delhi on Monday, with Bangladesh set to raise concerns over alleged push-ins and border killings.
